Home Education -Simple Instructions on How to Get Started

For mums, dads, guardians and carers

If you've never registered your child in a school then just carry on with the wonderful education that you are providing for your children - you have no legal requirement to contact anyone whatsoever. If you get stuff in the post regarding school places just chuck it in the bin, forget about it and carry on with your lives.

If your child is registered at a school then just send a letter to the head teacher stating that you are going to home educate and state that you require them to take your child off of the register, give a date whether tomorrow or 6 months time and then go for it. The school have a duty to notify the local education authorities within 10 days (not you!). It may be helpful to keep a copy of your letter and a receipt of it from the school. Don't attempt to argue with head teachers as tehy often know very little or nothing about the legalities of home education and can mislead you.
